Description

It is the only flamingo that naturally inhabits North America. In Ria Lagartos Mexico, flamingos live in large colonies, oftentimes numbering into the thousands of individuals. They tend to occupy large mudflats where the loose mud can be easily formed into the mounds that they use as nests. These large mud flats are usually located near a food supply. Hyper-saline estuaries are the preferred habitat.
