Green Tree Snail
Amphidromous atricallosus temasek
Location
Singapore
Date

Description
Due to rapid urbanisation in Singapore, the loss of habitat and poaching by shell collectors have resulted in the population of this species decline. Being listed as endangered, Singapore's statutory board, NParks has been doing heavy research to identify threats and introduce preventive measures to ensure its survival. This jade green shell belongs to a snail that is endemic to Singapore. Being largely arboreal, these snails live in the trees, feeding on lichen and fungi. They are also known to be hermaphroditic (each snail possesses both male and female reproductive organs).
