Piping Plover Chick
Charadrius melodus

Location

Ipswich, MA, USA

Date

06/06/2012

Description

This tiny Piping Plover chick is running down the beach to forage at the water’s edge. The endangered Piping Plover chicks leave their safe-ish nesting area to go down to the waterline to seek out invertebrates in the soft, moist sand. Nothing is more important for these chicks than to feed without interference to grow and fatten up for migration in late summer, or early fall.
