Description

Despite the challenges and pressures, the Amazon is facing, I think it is important to remember that the vast majority of the rainforest remains untouched and works as a vital carbon sponge for the atmosphere. We still can - and must - take actions that will preserve it and help in the fight against global warming. This is a view of the Anavilhanas, the second-largest river archipelago in the world with over 400 islands in the Rio Negro branch of the Amazon River, in Amazonas state, Brazil. Anavilhanas National Park has been a World Heritage Site since 2003.
